The Cu Chi tunnels in southern Vietnam, a historic combat zone

The Cu Chi tunnels are dug by hand and are about 60 by 40 cm. they have now expanded parts of the tunnel system to fit the tourist size which is approximately 1 meter times 80 cm.

The Cu Chi tunnels are an extensive network and incredibly large underground tunnel systems which originally ranged from the Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon to the Cambodian border. The tunnels are part of a larger network of tunnels that exist in most of the country. Cu Chi tunnels and other tunnels played a crucial role during the Vietnam War and was one of FNL's main bases during the Tet offensive end in 1968.

The tunnels were used by FNL mainly as hiding places in the battle zones. The fighters lived there and there where small factories producing weapons there where “health huts” and communication centre. It was built up to four floors.

The construction started in 1948 and the expansion lasted for 25 years. In total the tunnels where about 250 kilometer in length. In many areas there are large underground rooms and passageways in several levels.

The area is very fascinating! You will be completely thrilled by what you see but also of all history and all the stories about the area.
