Dien Bien Phu. The little village with its famous battlefields

 

Dien Bien Phu in the northwest corner of Vietnam, only 35 km from the Laotian border.

 

Are you interested in military history then you have to visit dien Bien Phu, one of the most famous battlefields in Vietnam.

 

Điện Bien Phu is a Vietnamese city in and is the capital of the province dien Bien. The whole municipality has about 46 000 inhabitants (2004) of which about 30 000 inhabitants living in the central city.

 

The city is best known for the battle of dien Bien Phu May 6, 1954, when Vietminh forces after a 57 days siege managed to defeat the French garrison.

 

Dien Bien Phu was considered by everybody except the Vietnamese as an accomplished and impregnable defense establishment.

 

There is a military museum, where you can see a model showing how the battle was conducted. You can also watch one of the bunker systems which the French built (Eliane)
